Wow....What a week!

Well, I hope the rest of the year is not like the first week of the year was like for me......home repairs, and not even my home....Paige's.  She called me the morning after our coldest night.....I think Wednesday morning.....and she was near tears saying that her house was 59 degrees....she was cold!  So after work that day, I went to Home Depot and bought her a new thermostat and went and installed it.

I sent a pic to Paige and this is what she sent back......makes it all worth it!

Crisis averted right......wrong!  She called me later that night that it was getting colder and a little panicked....so I went back to her house.  Turns out I did have one wire wrong...so I fixed that wire and the air started getting warmer....but only in Antonio's room because it appears that is the only room that was getting air flow period!  We called and called the warranty company, but nothing, so she had to go to bed that night with only air flow in one upstairs room......she told me the next morning that her room got air too (thank goodness).  We finally got an appointment for someone to come out to look at the duct work on Saturday.  They literally sent the largest man and he cannot get in the attic, so they have to send someone else again.  In the mean time, he did find the plug was burnt up and a fire hazard (yeah) but they do not do electrical work so he told me to call the warranty company again.....however, Jaime fixed it.  It was probably all burnt up because Paige was using the unit nonstop to try to heat the whole house with 2 vents working.

Okay....enough with house repairs....I hope it all gets fixed this week.

As for knitting......hmmmmmmm what did I do?  It felt like a short week!

Well, Darlene and I podcasted on Thursday evening and I worked on my Boxy Cape

I wore my fingerless mitts I showed you last week to staff meeting last week.  My boss asked if I knit then and of course I said Yes....so he asked if I could make one for his one year old.  Everything he finds in the store has a covered hand or is too large.....so I published a pattern here on this blog, and make his daughter, Madison, some fingerless mitts.

I think the only other thing I worked on is my brioche blanket......

I did have Jazz a this past weekend and also went with Jaime to work on Paige's AC/Heat plug, plus I also took down my Christmas Tree.......so with all of that, I just did not have as much knitting time!

Fingerless Mitts for One Year Old

I was wearing a pair of fingerless mitts to a staff meeting when someone asked me if I made them, of course I said Yes!  They asked if I could make some for a one year old because all they ones they find at stores have covered fingers or too big.  So off I went to see if I could make a ‘small’ pair of fingerless mitts.

Here is the recipient wearing them...she does not quite know what to think of them, but hey, at least the mitts match her pacifier :)

 

Pattern

Supplies, approx. 55-60 yards worsted/bulky yarn.  I used Biscotte Cie Griffon yarn in the Bouquet colorway.

US 8 DPN’s, I used the new Addi CraZyTrios.

Gauge = 5 stitches per inch  

 

Abbreviations

k – knit

p – purl

m1l: (make one left) lift strand between the needles from the front on the left needle, knit into the back of the loop

m1r: (make one right) lift strand between the needles from the back on the left needle, knit into the front of the loop

Backward yo: make a yarn over the right needle with your yarn coming from the back to the front.

 

Directions:

Cast on 24 stitches, join in round being careful not to twist stitches.

Row 1:  *k2, p2*, repeat till end of round

Rows 2-5 :  repeat row 1

Rows 6 – 13:  knit all stitches

Row 14: k2, m1l, k1, m1r, k to end of round

Row 15: knit all stitches

Row 16: k2, m1l, k3, m1r, k to end of round

Row 17: knit all stitches

Row 18: k1, slip next 7 stitches onto waste yarn, cast on 3 stitches with backward loop (I try to do these 3 stitches a little tight), k to end of round

Row 19 – 23: knit all stitches

Rows 24 – 28: repeat row 1

Bind of loosely: * k1, backward yo, k1, slip yo and first stitch over the last stitch,  p1, slip first stitch over second, p1, slip first stich over second * repeat * * till two purl stitches remain, p1, slip first stitch over second, p1, slip first stich over second, pull yarn through stitch to fasten off and weave in ends.

 Thumb:

Pick up the 7 thumb stitches onto DPN’s, attach yarn and pick up and knit 3 stiches from the cast on edge.  You should now have 10 stitches on your needles.

Row 1: *k1, p1*. Repeat till end of round

Row 2: repeat row 1

Bind of regularly, fasten off and weave in ends.
